Working hard for Shepshed
Improving our Town
|
We hope that you will vote for us at the above election, so that we can work on your behalf.
Incidentally, Stephen Londesborough lives at the Hathern end of your ward in Shepshed, and
Richard Tabberer lives at the other end.
As you may know, Shepshed Town Council is a Parish Council, and its main responsibilities are:
To care for and ensure the good use of
- Glenmore Park & Little Haw Playing Fields
- Glenmore Community Centre & the Town Council Office & its Centre.
- To care for - Shepshed’s Charnwood Road Cemetery
But also to give voice to the needs of Shepshed – for example,
- speaking to Charnwood Borough and Leicestershire County on planning matters,
and to the Police about anti-social behaviour.
Some projects of parrticular interest to us are:
- to increase the links between Shepshed Town Council and the schools to which Shepshed children go. -- this to encourage the pupils to take an active role in making Shepshed a place to be proud of., and to foster an interest in the work of local government & the democratic process
- to see what more can be done to cater for Shepshed’s young people in the evenings
- to see what can be done to smarten the shopping areas of Shepshed – both to improve our street scene and to encourage people to make more use of our shops so that they do not disappear
We also support the Shepshed Declaration.
- We are a gateway to the Charnwood Forest. We must capitalise on our position on the edge of the National Forest and declare the countryside around Shepshed as a key asset to be preserved.
- We should not just be a dormitory town but we can’t put the clock back. Open up new opportunities for jobs and employment. Bring employment back home to Shepshed.
- Both the motorway, its junction 23, and the East Midlands airport can bring greater benefit to Shepshed, but their development must be controlled and take our concerns on board.
- Attract and develop small businesses and specialist retail. Locate Charnwood’s next small business centre here. Complete the plans for a Shepshed Business Centre.
- A safe town. We’ve all got to act together from minor things like litter to anti-social behaviour and bullying. Together with our Beat Officer, and Charnwood’s new street wardens we can do it!
- More leisure opportunities – better access to Whitwick and Loughborough’s leisure and arts facilities, but also build up use of Hind Leys and our new Shepshed High School.
- Public transport in and out of Shepshed must be improved and safe, especially for young people at weekends and in the evening.
- We have excellent health care here: our local GPs, opticians and pharmacies are in walkable distance for many. Let’s value them.
- Protect our market and bring a farmers’ market to bring good food to our doorstep.
- Keep the footpaths and town trails clean and clear of litter of all kinds on Jubilee Way, across Garendon, out to Belton and up to Oaks.
- Blow our own trumpet. Be proud but realistic. Be sure and be positive about Shepshed
